Nike Staff player Simon Dyson won for the second time in 2months when he claimed the KLM Open. The win was his 3rd in the last 6 years in the event and it re-kindled his love affair with the Netherlands. In cold and wet conditions Dyson finished the week 12 under, one ahead of fellow countryman David Lynn and two ahead of Rory Mcilroy.

Dyson has been in great form since his Irish Open win in late July and his recent form has earned him a place in the Top 30 in the World Rankings, a career high. Dyson is one of three Nike players in the World top 30.

Nike Golf to launch football-inspired golf range for fans of leading European clubs

Nike Tour Staff athlete Simon Dyson will be showing his true colours when he tees it up at Wentworth for this week’s BMW PGA Championship, after it was revealed that the football-loving tour pro from Yorkshire will be sporting kit featuring branding belonging to his beloved Manchester United.

The 33-year-old four-time European Tour winner will be wearing the new outfit, which has been launched by Nike Golf to celebrate its sponsorship of football teams across Europe, on one of the opening two days at the Wentworth showpiece event, which will coincide perfectly with his team’s appearance in Europe’s Final on Saturday where Manchester United take on FC Barcelona in London .

"I'm not sure where I'll be watching the match yet, but I'm hoping I'll be off the course in plenty of time to see the kick-off, whether it be in the clubhouse or whichever bar we end up in,” says Dyson, whose uncle played for Spurs. “We’re riding high after sealing the Premiership title last weekend and I’m confident we can get the result. While I would love a late tee time on Saturday as that will mean I’m playing well, I hope to have time to get to watch the match.”

Speaking about the new logoed outfit, Dyson added: “I love the idea of being able to show off your sporting allegiances in other contexts but I’m sure I’m going to get a bit of stick from some of the other players on Tour. I’ve supported United since I was a boy, so I feel I’ve earned the right to wear the crest.”

Lyle & Scott and Ping tour player Matt Nixon set off at blistering pace at the Iberdrola Open at Pula Golf Club in Mallorca. Nixon led from the front with a superb opening round of 65 and then followed it up with a steady 70 which included a double at the last on Friday to tie for 2nd at the halfway stage. Nixon opened his 3rd round with another double and from then on failed to find the form of his earlier rounds finishing with rounds of 76 and 77 respectively for a disappointing total of +8 T38.

For Lyle & Scott ambassador Chris Wood it was a case of "so close, so far away" after the final round of the Iberdrola Open at Pula GC in Mallorca. The Lyle & Scott tour player was edged out of what would have been his maiden tour victory by Northern Irishman Darren Clarke. Clarke carded a final round 69 which clinched him his 13th tour title but both golfers encountered their share of problems on the back 9. Clarke’s challenge looked to be dampening after knocking it into the water at the 11th hole and walking off with a double-bogey but Wood 3-putted the 12th & 13th holes before driving it out of town at the 15th which contributed to a back 9 of 40 despite nearly ace-ing the last. But it was Clark who birdied and scrambled his way home to claim the e167,000 winners cheque. Not a bad return to work for Clarke after a week holidaying in the Bahamas.

Clarke may be the best golfer this week but Chris Wood in his Lyle & Scott Green Eagle definitely get the Designer Golf Wear trend setter award.

The US Open 2011 gets under-way at Congressional Country Club, Blue Course, Bethesda, Maryland 16-19 June 2011

The United States Open Championship, more commonly known as the U.S. Open is the annual open golf tournament of the United States. It is the second of the four major championships in golf and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June, scheduled so that, if there are no weather delays, the final round is played on the third Sunday, which is Father's Day.

The first U.S. Open was played on October 4, 1895, on a nine-hole course at the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. It was a 36-hole competition and was played in a single day. Ten professionals and one amateur entered. The winner was a 21-year-old Englishman named Horace Rawlins, who had arrived in the U.S. in January that year to take up a position at the host club. He received $150 cash out of a prize fund of $335, plus a $50 gold medal; his club received the Open Championship Cup trophy, which was presented by the USGA. In the beginning, the tournament was dominated by experienced British players until 1911, when John J. McDermott became the first native-born American winner. American golfers soon began to win regularly and the tournament evolved to become one of the four majors.

Since 1911, the title has been won almost exclusively by players from the United States. Since 1950, players from only six countries other than the United States have won the championship, most notably South Africa, which has won five times since 1965. A streak of four consecutive non-American winners occurred from 2004 to 2007 for the first time since 1910. These four players, South African Retief Goosen (2004), New Zealander Michael Campbell (2005), Australian Geoff Ogilvy (2006) and Argentine Ángel Cabrera (2007), are all from countries in the Southern Hemisphere. Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell (2010) became the first European player to win the event since Tony Jacklin of England in 1970.

The U.S. Open is staged at a variety of courses, set up in such a way that scoring is very difficult with a premium placed on accurate driving. U.S. Open play is characterized by tight scoring at or around par by the leaders, with the winner emerging at around even par. A U.S. Open course is seldom beaten severely, and there have been many over-par wins (in part because par is usually set at 70 except for the very longest courses). Normally, an Open course is quite long and will have a high cut of primary rough (termed "Open rough" by the American press and fans), hilly greens (such as at Pinehurst No. 2 in 2005, which was described by Johnny Miller of NBC as "like trying to hit a ball on top of a VW Beetle"), and pinched fairways (especially on what are expected to be less difficult holes).

The U.S. Open is the only one of the four major championships which does not go immediately to a playoff if two or more players are tied at the end of the four rounds. Instead, the players play a fifth 18-hole round the following day (Monday), but if a tie still exists after the round, then a sudden death playoff is held. Only three times has the U.S. Open gone to sudden death after the playoff round, most recently in 2008 when Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate on the first playoff hole.

The Congressional Country Club has previously hosted the US Open in 1964 and 1997. The course was originally designed by Devereux Emmett in 1924 and renovated by Rees Jones in 1990. The 2010 tournament was won by Graeme McDowell, the first European winner since Tony Jacklin triumphed in 1970. Overnight leader Dustin Johnson imploded, shooting a final round of 82, to leave McDowell the winner despite carding a three over par 74.
