Rising golf superstar Tom Lewis added to his already impressive CV over the weekend when he captured the Portugal Masters in the Algarve.
A month after helping GB+I capture the Walker Cup, Lewis won his 1st Professional event in only his third attempt. This betters the efforts of Tiger Woods who won in his 5th tour start and Rory McIlroy who claimed his first tour win in his 38th event. If these stats are anything to go by then Lewis is in for a special future.
Lewis raced into the limelight back in July at Royal St Georges during the British Open. After shooting the lowest ever first round by an Amateur and impressing Golf Hall of Famer Tom Watson, with whom he played the opening two rounds alongside. After capturing the Silver Medal, Lewis turned his attentions to the Walker Cup before turning professional the week after GB+I had won at Royal Aberdeen. He was expecting to go down the gruelling route of Tour School but after last Weekend in Portugal, in which he finished with a 7 under-par 65, playing the last 7 holes in 5 under, he is now exempt on tour for 2 years and the Ping Staff player has a bright future ahead of him, especially if last weekend in Portugal is anything to go by. Expect to see a lot more of Tom Lewis in the future.
