Woods made two crucial putts on the last two holes with his Nike Method 001 putter to win

Nike athlete Tiger Woods is back in the winners’ circle and his win at the Chevron World Challenge came in a stunning dramatic “Tiger-like” fashion.

With two holes left to play in the final round, Woods needed a magical birdie putt on the 17th to tie and another one on the 18th to win. He accomplished both by making the crucial 15-foot birdie putt on 17 and a 10-footer to seal his victory on 18 with his Nike Method 001 putter. This marks his first win with the Nike Method putter and the 36th for Nike Golf on the worldwide professional tours.

Nike Staff player Simon Dyson won for the second time in 2months when he claimed the KLM Open. The win was his 3rd in the last 6 years in the event and it re-kindled his love affair with the Netherlands. In cold and wet conditions Dyson finished the week 12 under, one ahead of fellow countryman David Lynn and two ahead of Rory Mcilroy.

Dyson has been in great form since his Irish Open win in late July and his recent form has earned him a place in the Top 30 in the World Rankings, a career high. Dyson is one of three Nike players in the World top 30.

Nike Golf to launch football-inspired golf range for fans of leading European clubs

Nike Tour Staff athlete Simon Dyson will be showing his true colours when he tees it up at Wentworth for this week’s BMW PGA Championship, after it was revealed that the football-loving tour pro from Yorkshire will be sporting kit featuring branding belonging to his beloved Manchester United.

The 33-year-old four-time European Tour winner will be wearing the new outfit, which has been launched by Nike Golf to celebrate its sponsorship of football teams across Europe, on one of the opening two days at the Wentworth showpiece event, which will coincide perfectly with his team’s appearance in Europe’s Final on Saturday where Manchester United take on FC Barcelona in London .

"I'm not sure where I'll be watching the match yet, but I'm hoping I'll be off the course in plenty of time to see the kick-off, whether it be in the clubhouse or whichever bar we end up in,” says Dyson, whose uncle played for Spurs. “We’re riding high after sealing the Premiership title last weekend and I’m confident we can get the result. While I would love a late tee time on Saturday as that will mean I’m playing well, I hope to have time to get to watch the match.”

Speaking about the new logoed outfit, Dyson added: “I love the idea of being able to show off your sporting allegiances in other contexts but I’m sure I’m going to get a bit of stick from some of the other players on Tour. I’ve supported United since I was a boy, so I feel I’ve earned the right to wear the crest.”

Nike, which sponsors a number of Europe’s leading football teams, including Manchester United’s Champions League rivals Barcelona, as well as Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan and Celtic will be bringing out a range of football team-logoed golf gear later this Autumn, featuring shoes, polo shirts and golf bags.

Fellow Nike Golf athlete Francesco Molinari is going to match Dyson’s get-up at next month’s Italian Open, where he will be wearing Nike Golf apparel and shoes featuring his favoured Inter Milan’s logo, while it is understood that all of the football squads involved will be wearing the logoed product whenever they take to the fairways.

Luke Donald takes halfway lead
Luke Donald stepped up to the plate yet again in this week’s PGA tour event by carding a 65 to take a 1 stroke lead and a -10 total going into the weekend. Donald has had a blistering start to the 2011 season with 4 top ten finishes which included 4th place in the Masters tournament at Augusta and a win at the World Golf Championships- Accenture Match Play. He can claim top spot on the official World Golf Rankings with a win this week jumping fellow Englishman Lee Westwood and Germay’s Martyn Kaymer.
Hot on the tail of the Donald is Nike Staff player, American Chad Campbell and the Australian Jason Day both T3 on -8. Campbell (Nike Dri-Fit) followed up his opening 65 with a 69 yesterday to put himself amongst the chasing pack leading into the weekend. Campbell has had a steady start to the 2011 season making 7 cuts from 11 events. His recent form suggests he is starting to peak so is defiantly one to watch in the run up to the next major. Jason Day (Adidas Climacool) is going from strength to strength after taking the runner-up spot in the Master with fellow Australian Adam Scott. Day (Adidas Formotion) has made 6 out of 8 cuts so far this season elevating him to 5th in the money list and Fed-Ex Cup rankings.

One week after Nike Golf athlete Charl Schwartzel won the coveted green jacket at The Masters tournament, Nike Golf athlete John Cook adds another win for the Swoosh at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am on the Champions Tour.  It marks Cook’s second win of the season and seventh in his career on the Champions Tour.  His victory also brings to seven the number of wins by Nike athletes around the globe in 2011.

Cook, now ranked second on the 2011 Champions Tour money list, won on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff.  On the playoff hole, Cook hit a 6-iron to within six feet and made it for birdie to seal his victory.  Using his Nike VR Pro Blades, Cook was ranked number one in the field in Greens in Regulation (GIR), averaging 81.5%. His stellar iron play boosted him to a ranking of 10th in GIR so far in 2011. Also impressive is his driving accuracy, as he is ranked third in this category for the year with his Nike VR Driver.  Rounding out his Nike arsenal were his Nike Hybrid and Nike Method prototype putter.

The Masters tournament 2011 gets under-way at Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday 7th April.

The Masters is the first of the four major golf tournaments held each year. Unlike other golf championships The Masters is held each year in the same location at the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia USA.

The U.S Masters was the idea of Clifford Roberts and Bobby Jones and was first played in 1934 with Horton Smith the eventual inaugural Masters champion. Bobby Jones and legendary golf course designer Alister MacKenzie designed Augusta National which opened in 1933.

The Masters tournament is an official money event on the PGA Tour, the PGA European Tour and the Japan Golf Tour. The field of players is smaller than those of the other major championships because it is an invitational event, entry being controlled by the Augusta National Golf Club.
